Boxscore - HTM | PDF

Cheney, WA - The Eastern Washington Eagles made a school-record 20 three-point field goals on their way to a rout of Portland State, 112-83, at Reese Court.

Eastern Washington got off to a hot start and never cooled down in the game. The Eagles shot .631 from the field and made 20-31 from distance (.645) on the night. The 20 three-pointers were also the most ever allowed by Portland State in a game.

Eagles' guard Austin McBroom, the Big Sky Conference's leading scorer and three-point shooter, led the way with 25 points, hitting six threes, and passing off for five assists. Venky Jois added 23 points and nine rebounds.

Portland State's Cameron Forte was a one-man wrecking crew, but he was the only thing the Vikings had going for them for much of the game. Forte scored 37 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead PSU. It was the most points by a Viking in four years and the most by any player in the Big Sky Conference this season. Unfortunately, the only other Viking to reach double figures was Collin Spickerman with 10.

PSU shot a respectable .484 from the floor, but only after a hot second half when the game was out of reach. The Vikings made just 3-11 from three-point range (.273) and 18-32 at the line (.563).

Three early turnovers by the Vikings fueled an early 21-4 Eastern Washington lead. The Eagles hit eight of their first nine shots, including five three-pointers.

Portland State had no answer for the Eagles start and trailed by as many as 27 in the first half. Eastern led 56-32 at halftime. The Eagles made 19-29 (.655) from the field and 10-14 (.714) from three-point distance. They also scored 18 points off of eight Viking turnovers in the half.

If not for Forte, it would have been even worse for PSU. Forte had 21 of the Vikings' 32 points by halftime and nine rebounds.

Eastern's lead was as large as 36 points early in the second half. The Eagles settled for a 29-point win.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 10-10 on the season, 4-4 in the Big Sky Conference. PSU dropped to 7-11, 3-4. The Vikings are 3-7 on the road.

GAME NOTES: Forte's 37 points were the most by a Viking since Charles Odum scored 38 against Sacramento State on Feb. 23, 2012… Forte's 20 free throw attempts set a new Portland State record (he made 11). The previous mark for attempts in a game was 19, held by Seamus Boxley and Jason Hartman… Forte is averaging 29.7 points and 12.0 rebounds in his last three road games… Viking guard Donivine Stewart passed off for a season-high eight assists for the Vikings… the 112 points by Eastern Washington are the most allowed by PSU in almost 10 years... Portland State moves on to play at Idaho on Saturday at 7 p.m. Live video, audio and stats can be found at GoViks.com by clicking on the Game Day box.
