PORTLAND – The Vikings made it two-for-two on the day with a three-set sweep of Grand Canyon Saturday night at the Peter W. Stott Center. The Vikings swept Nevada earlier in the day.

For the second straight match, the Vikings held their opponent to a season-low hitting percentage. After holding Nevada to just .176 hitting in the morning, Portland State held Grand Canyon to a .085 hitting mark as the Lopes connected for just 26 kills, also an opponent season low.

Freshman OH
Eva Linden led the Vikings in kills for the fourth-straight match tallying 12 with a .250 hitting mark. Linden added four digs and a pair of blocking assists for a team-high 13.0 points.

The Vikings had four players in double-digit points. Junior OH
Pati Anae added 11.5 points with 10 kills, an ace, and a block. It was her third double-digit kill performance of the season.

Two other Vikings,
Katy Wilson and
Jenna Mullen, each tallied eight kills. Wilson went 8-for-10 with no errors in the match. She also added a pair of blocks. For the second-straight match, Mullen ended the match at the service line. In each, she won it for the Vikings with back-to-back aces.

Sophomore setters
Erin Clark and
Kylie Copple continue to share time on the court with each tallying 19 and 17 assists respectively. Clark added 12 digs for her third-straight double-double.

The Vikings took control early in the first set and went on to take it by a score of 25-18. Linden led the Vikings with four kills while Anae and Mullen each added three.

Portland State once again kept its foot on the gas and dominated the second set winning 25-14. The Vikings hit .400 in the set with 17 kills and three errors while Grand Canyon hit just .094 with nine kills and six errors. Wilson took center stage in the second going 5-for-5 in attacks with no errors.

After the break, the Vikings found themselves in a third set battle. The score remained tight through much of the set with neither team taking more than a two-point lead until Wilson served up an ace to put the Vikings up 17-14, forcing a GCU timeout.

A few points later, Mullen put the Vikings up 19-16 with a kill and went to the service line. Tough serving from Mullen kept the Lopes off balance as the Vikings increased their lead to 23-16. Mullen then posted back-to-back aces to secure the 25-16 win for the Vikings. PSU ended the match on a 7-0 run.

Even though the third set recorded eight ties and a pair of lead changes, the Vikings converted 13-of-16 side out opportunities en route to the win.

The Vikings moved to 2-4 overall with the win wile the Lopes fell to 0-6 on the season.

The Vikings head out on the road next weekend for three matches at the Rebel Challenge hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. The Vikings will take on Oral Roberts, UNLV, and Southeastern Louisiana.
