GRESHAM, Ore. — Freshman
Nyalual Beng shaved close to four seconds off her personal best in the 800 meters, as she led a small group of Vikings at the Mt. Hood Track Festival Saturday at Earl Klapstein Stadium.
Â
Beng placed third overall in the 800 meters in 2:14.47, more than 3.5 seconds better than her prep personal best of 2:18. Beng's time also marks a near-four-second seasonal best, as her time Saturday beat her previous seasonal best of 2:18.12, set at the Oregon Relays two weekends ago.
Â
Fellow freshman
Ethan Cotton also set a new personal best in the men's 1,500 meters Saturday. Cotton crossed the line in 4:30.09 at the meet, more than three seconds better than his previous personal best, which he set at 4:33.21 at the John Knight Twilight meet earlier this season.
Â
Additionally, freshman
Shasta Wilson added a third new personal best for the Vikings, as she placed third in the javelin with a throw of 120-03.75 (36.67m). Wilson's mark Saturday beats her previous best by nearly eight feet, and continues a constant upward trend for the freshman in the javelin this season. Wilson opened the outdoor season with a throw of 90-05 (27.56m) at the Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker at the beginning of March, but has increased her mark at each meet she's competed at this season.
Â
Outside of the personal bests, junior
Adia White led the Vikings with third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters Saturday. White finished the 100 in 12.36 seconds, setting a new seasonal best in the event.
Â
The Vikings will now move onto the Oregon Twilight meet Friday, which will be the team's final meet before the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in Cheney, Wash., May 13-16.
