Mikaela Rivard hit a career-high 10 field goals for 23 points but the Portland State Vikings fell to the Northern Colorado Bears, 90-50, Saturday afternoon in Greeley, Colo.
Portland State led 10-8 early in the first half before a 24-1 run by Northern Colorado blew the game open and put the Bears up 31-11. Northern Colorado maintained its double-digit advantage and led 39-21 at the break.
The Bears kept the pressure on in the second half going up by as much as 42 points before winning by the final 90-50 margin. Northern Colorado had five players in double-figures led by D'Shara Strange's 19 points.
Rivard's 23 points fell one shy of her career mark of 24 set earlier this season against North Dakota. Rivard went 10-for-18 from the floor and 2-for-5 from three-point range. She pulled down seven rebounds in 32 minutes.
Emily Easom scored eight points with a pair of three-pointers to move into sole possession of fifth place all-time at Portland State in career three-point field goals. She scored five of her eight points in the second half before fouling out.
Lauren Holt also scored eight points before fouling out for the Vikings.
Northern Colorado improved to 15-11 overall and 9-6 in Big Sky Conference play while Portland State fell to 3-22 and 1-13.
The Vikings will return home for a week of practice before heading back out on the road for their final road contest of the season at Sacramento State on Saturday, Feb. 28. Tipoff with the Hornets is slated for 2 p.m. PT.
