Vikings Roll Over Lutes, 105-60, In Home Opener

Portland, OR - The Portland State Vikings rode a near 60% shooting night on the way to winning their home opener, 105-60, over Pacific Lutheran at the Stott Center.

PSU made 37-62 from the field (.597) and half of their 22 three-point attempts in scoring their most points since 2008. It was also Portland State's first 100-point game since 2011.

All 14 Vikings that played in the game scored. Cameron Forte had 22 points and eight rebounds, shooting 7-10 from the field and 8-12 at the line. Bryce White tallied 20 points and four assists. 

PSU had 26 assists on 37 made shots and committed only nine turnovers. 

"We did a really good job (of sharing the ball)," said Viking Coach Tyler Geving. "We needed to get guys going and hitting shots and building some confidence."

Pacific Lutheran shot 19-57 from the field (.333) and 8-29 from three-point range (.276). Brandon Lester led the Lutes with 16 points.

Portland State made its first eight shots in a row jumping to a 19-10 lead at the 14:33 mark of the first half. A 9-0 run midway through the first half pushed the Viking lead to 36-20 and it was never less than 14 for the remainder of the game.

The Vikings made 21 of 32 shots in the first half as they raced out to a 56-34 halftime lead. White had 16 by halftime, including hitting four three-pointers.

It became a full blowout in the second half as Portland State's largest lead was 42 points.

Portland State's bench contributed 60 points in the game. Coming up big off the bench was Calaen Robinson with 13 points in 13 minutes. Namdi Okonkwo had a team-high nine rebounds and three blocked shots in 15 minutes and Khari Holloway had eight points and two assists.

PSU is now 1-1 on the season and goes on the road to Texas Rio Grande Valley and Nevada next week. "We have a tough road trip, a long road trip, and we need to see what we are made of," Geving said.

GAME NOTES: Portland State extended its non-conference home winning streak to six games dating back to 2013. The Vikings are 40-6 in non-conference home games over the past 10 seasons, including 17-0 against lower division schools… PSU is 16-4 in home openers since joining the Big Sky Conference in 1996-97… Portland State is off until Sunday when it plays at Texas Rio Grande Valley. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT/Noon PT.
