FULLERTON, Calif. – Portland State took a brief second half lead but could not hold on as the Vikings fell to Cal State Fullerton, 84-69, Friday night in Fullerton, Calif.

The Vikings trailed by 10 at then end of the first period, 27-17, but cut the Titans' lead to just four, 43-39, at the break.

Portland State pulled within a basket several times during the third period before a three-pointer by freshman G
Michaela Kay gave the Vikings a 57-56 lead with 2:17 left in the third.

The Titans regained the lead with a layup on their very next possession and held the lead throughout the rest of the game and won by the final 15-point margin.

The Vikings were in foul trouble most of the game committing 31 personal fouls compared to just 22 by the Titans. The Vikings also turned the ball over 28 times which lead to 29 points off turnovers.

Kay led the Vikings with 22 points going 7-for-15 from the floor. She also hit five of her 11 three-point attempts and went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. She pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Ashley Torres Negron added 14 points in 24 minutes for the Vikings. She did most of her damage at the free-throw line, going a perfect 8-for-8. Junior F
Danah Haley added 10 points in 18 minutes off the bench before fouling out of the game.

Alicia Carline matched her career high with five blocks in the game. She pulled down eight rebounds in 29 minutes to match Kay.

Cal State Fullerton narrowly outshot the Vikings in the game from the floor, 39.2-to-38.6, but the Vikings held a 48-to-40 rebounding margin.

The Titans' Michelle Berry led all scorers with 38 points going 13-for-17 from the floor. We went 3-for-6 from three-point range and 9-for-16 from the line.

The Titans improved to 1-0 overall on the season while the Vikings fell to 0-1.
