Bears Take Care of Vikings in Straight Sets

GREELEY, Colo.
– The Portland State volleyball team fell in straight sets Thursday night to Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. The Bears took the match by scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-18.
 
Portland State and Northern Colorado were all knotted up at 20-20 late in the first set. The teams traded points to 22-22 before three-straight points by the Bears gave them the three-point win in the opening frame.
 
A service ace from Hadley Heck and a kill from Kylie Copple brought the Vikings within one point at 15-14 midway through the second set. Northern Colorado took six of the next eight points to go up 21-16. The Bears held their advantage and took the second set, 25-19, with a solo block at the net to go up two sets to one.
 
The third set went much like the second. The teams were all tied up at 16-16 before four-straight points by Northern Colorado put it up 20-16. The Bears closed out the match with a 9-2 run, aided by four PSU attacking errors, to win 25-18 in the third.
 
Freshman OH Eva Linden led the Vikings with nine kills. She also added nine digs, an ace, and a pair of blocks. It was the third time this season that no Viking recorded double-digit kills, first in Big Sky Conference play.
 
Freshman OH Jenna Mullen and freshman MB Katy Wilson each added five kills in the match. Sophomore L Tasha Bojanic recorded a match-high 14 digs.
 
Northern Colorado's Kendra Cunningham tallied a match-high 12 kills along with 10 digs for a double-double.
 
The Vikings return home for a Halloween matchup with Sacramento State at the Peter W. Stott Center. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start. Any fan with a Portland State football vs. Montana ticket from earlier in the day will gain free admittance to the Volleyball match.
