Mikaela Rivard posted her first 20-point game of the young season but the Vikings fell 86-57 to the Coyotes of South Dakota Wednesday night at the Peter W. Stott Center.

Rivard scored her season-high 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the floor. She added a pair of three-pointers and four free throws. Rivard scored 12 of her 20 points in the second half.

Rivard is averaging 16.5 points per game after scoring 13 points in the Vikings' season opener at Seattle University. Rivard is shooting .433 for the season (13-30).

Emily Easom scored a season-high 16 points going 6-for-13 from the floor. Easom hit a team-high four three-pointers in the game. Senior G
Lariel Powell scored 10 points despite playing most of the game in foul trouble after picking up a pair of fouls less than two minutes into the game.

South Dakota shot .508 from the floor and held Portland State to a .364 shooting mark. The Coyotes out-scored the Vikings 44-to-24 in the paint and turned 16 Portland State turnovers into 25 points.

The Vikings fell behind early as the Coyotes opened up the game on a 13-2 run. Portland State fought to keep the deficit to single digits but trailed 38-25 at the half.

Powell scored on back-to-back possessions to start the second half. A few possessions later Rivard knocked down a three-pointer to pull within 10 points at 42-32.

South Dakota went 0-for-5 from beyond the arc in the first half but hit four straight three-pointers in the second half. It turned a 12-point lead into a 24-point advantage and effectively put the game out of reach.Â

South Dakota's Margaret McCloud scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting. The Coyotes had two others in double-figure scoring.

South Dakota improved to 2-1 on the season, while Portland State fell to 0-2.
