PORTLAND, Ore.
– It took five sets but the Portland State Volleyball defeated the Idaho Vandals in for Head Coach Michael Seemann's 100th-career Big Sky Conference victory. The Vikings took the match by scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-16, 23-25, and 16-14 in their first five-set match of the year.

"We did all the things that we need to be doing," Seemann said following the win. "We had strong starts in sets and we battled back in the fourth. Even though it didn't fall the way we wanted, it gave us confidence going into the fifth set. We also served tough and reduced our errors at the service line. The addition of Shelbi (Miyashiro) and Emani (Jackson) helped. Emani delivered and did a great job in her first true match."

After falling behind 2-0 early in the fifth set, Portland State (4-13 overall, 2-3 Big Sky Conference) went on a 7-1 run to lead 7-3. After the teams traded attacking errors, the Vikings led 8-4 as the teams switched sides of the net.

The Vandals (7-10, 3-2) scored three straight to cut the Vikings' lead to just a point at 8-7. Portland State scored two of the next three points to go up 10-8 before Idaho scored twice to tie the set at 10-10. PSU again went up by two at 13-11 after a UI attacking error and a quick hit from sophomore S Shelbi Miyashiro. The Vandals would not go quietly, and scored the next two points to again tie the set at 13-13. A block at the net gave Idaho match point at 14-13. The Vikings staved off match point as UI's Ali Forde served it into the net to tie the set at 14-14.

An attacking error on Idaho turned the tables and gave the Portland State match point at 15-14. Senior OH Cheyne Corrado finished off Idaho with her team-high 16th kill of the match to give the Vikings the 16-14 win in the fifth.

The Vikings held the Vandals to a -.097 (4-7-31) attacking percentage in the final frame. Idaho ended up outhitting Portland State .139-to-.130 for the match. The Vikings have been outhit in both of their Big Sky victories this season.

Corrado led the Vikings with 16 kills and recorded her team-leading fifth double-double in the win with 10 digs. She also added a pair of aces and a pair of blocks in the match. Senior L Kasimira "Kasi" Clark moved 24 digs closer to the Portland State all-time career digs mark against the Vandals. Kasi Clark now has 1,628 career kills, 113 shy of Evi Shovlin's mark of 1,742.

The Vikings were tough at the net all night posting a team season-high 16 blocks in the process. Senior MB Katie O'Brien tallied a season-high 10 total blocks (0-10) in the match to lead the team. Senior OH Leigh-Ann Haataja added eight (1-7) and teamed up with O'Brien on several occasions. O'Brien (419) and Haataja (414) are both in the top 20 on the NCAA Division I's active career total blocks list.

Portland State threw a wrinkle into their offense against Idaho running a two-setter offense. Miyashiro got the start for the Vikings and tallied a career-high 28 assists. She added 12 digs for her first career double-double. Freshman S Erin Clark rotated in to serve and then stayed in the match as the setter. She posted 19 assists in the victory.

Portland State was up 24-16 late in the first set before Idaho rattled off six straight points to pull within two at 24-22. Freshman OH Lauren Nicholson gave the Vikings the 25-22 win with her third kill of the set.

The tides turned in second set as the Vandals led 23-16 late in the set. The Vikings scored four straight to cut the lead to three at 23-20 before two straight by the Vandals even the match at once set apiece.

The Vikings posted their best set of the match taking the third set 25-16. They hit .333 with 16 kill in the frame, four each coming from three different players.
