PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland State volleyball team put together one of its most complete matches of the season Saturday night defeating the Eastern Washington Eagles in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-19.

Portland State (5-13 overall, 3-3 Big Sky Conference) held Eastern Washington to a -.036 (24-28-112) hitting percentage for the match. It was the first time the Vikings held their opponent to a negative hitting percentage since they did it against the Eagles on Oct. 18, 2012.

The Vikings did not allow the Eagles to get into any kind of rhythm offensively. Portland State tallied 50 digs in the match led by senior libero Kasimira "Kasi" Clark's 15.

At the net the Vikings tallied 12.0 total blocks as a team, their second highest mark of the season. Senior middle blocker Katie O'Brien and freshman middle blocker Sarah Liva each tallied six blocks in the match (1-5).

Offensively for the Vikings it was senior outside hitter Cheyne Corrado that put together her best match of the year. Corrado tallied a match-high 15 kills and hit a season-high .417 (15-4-27) from the floor. She got off to a hot start with five kills in the first set and improved on that mark hitting .727 in the second frame with eight kills on 11 attacks with no errors. Corrado then added a pair of kills in the third.

Eastern Washington (6-12, 2-4) held a narrow one-point lead at 13-12 midway through the first set. An EWU attacking error tied the set at 13-13 and started a 9-0 run for the Vikings who jumped out to a 21-13 lead behind some tough serving from Clark. The Eagles ended their scoring drought with a kill but the Vikings scored two straight to go up 23-14. After an Eastern Washington kill, back-to-back kills from O'Brien gave the Vikings a 25-15 win in the first. PSU finished the set on a 13-2 run.

The Vikings served tough throughout the match picking up five aces. Portland State did a great job of getting Eastern Washington out of system with the serve, which led to easy points. The Vikings scored 17 points in the match following a Clark serve.

Portland State opened up the second set on a 4-1 run. The Vikings pushed their advantage to seven points at 10-3. Corrado gave the Vikings the 12-4 lead with a kill. The Eagles started to come back and cut the lead to three at 16-13. Another big swing from Corrado gave the Vikings a 17-13 lead. Corrado tallied four more kills over the final nine points of the set to give the Vikings the 25-14 win in the second.

The Vikings started the third set with three straight points to take the early lead. They built their lead up to six points at 11-5. Portland State then went on a nice run to go up 20-9. The Eagles clawed their way back into the set but could not mount the comeback and the Vikings won it 25-19 on a Liva kill a the net. It was just the second three-set victory for the Vikings this season.

The Vikings will play their next four matches on the road beginning at North Dakota on Oct. 16. They will then play at Sacramento State on Oct. 18.
