PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State Vikings fell to the Idaho State Bengals in straight sets Saturday afternoon at the Peter W. Stott Center. Idaho State took the match by scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-17.

Freshman outside hitter
Roni LaPierre picked up her third career double-double with a team-high 11 kills and 10 digs. She added a pair of service aces and a block for a team-high 13.5 points.

Senior libero Kasimira "Kasi" Clark posted a team-high 16 digs and moved into sole possession of second all-time at Portland State in career digs. She now has 1,604 for her career and is now 138 digs behind Eavi Schovlin's school record of 1,742.Â

Idaho State (10-7 overall, 4-0 Big Sky Conference) held an early 8-2 lead in the first set as Portland State (3-13, 1-3) struggled offensively early. After getting down 10-3, the Vikings battled their way back to a 12-12 tie behind tough serving, aggressive hitting, and some key digs to keep rallies alive. ISU went up by four at 20-16 before PSU came back to tie it at 22-22. The Bengals closed out the set with three straight points to win 25-22.

Portland State led 8-7 in the second set but Idaho State went on a five-point run to go up 12-8. The Vikings came back with a 5-0 run to take the lead at 14-13. The Vikings went up 20-16 before three straight by the Bengals to cut the lead to 20-19. After the teams traded points, Idaho State closed out the set on a 6-1 run to win 25-22.

Idaho State went up 8-4 in the third set. The Vikings battled in the third and trailed by three points at 20-17 but the Bengals scored five straight to finish out the three-set sweep and take the third set 25-17.Â

Whitney Harrington led the Bengals with 11 kills while Makenzie Filer tallied 10 kills and hit .529 for the match. ISU libero Kylee Sessions posted a match-high 21 digs.

The Vikings continue their four-match home stand next week when they host the Idaho Vandals on Thursday Oct. 9 followed by Eastern Washington on Saturday, Oct. 11.
