Vinson and Sprints Lead the Way For Portland State on Third Day of Big Sky Outdoor Championships

FOREST GROVE, Ore.- Joenisha Vinson and the Portland State women's sprinters were on display on the third day of the Big Sky outdoor track and field championships in Forest Grove, Ore., on Friday. Vinson scored the Viks 10 more team points winning the long jump, while many of the Viking sprinters and distance runners advanced through their preliminary event. 

Vinson, who gave the Portland State women's squad its first points of the week, posted another 10-points as she won the long jump, once again setting a personal-best in the event, with a final mark of 6.08m (19-11.50).

Jazmin Ratcliff, Vinson and Cassandra Sidner led the way in the 100-meter hurdles, all punching their tickets to the finals as Ratcliff finished with a mark of 13.76, coming in second, with Vinson and Sidner finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Vinson posted a time of 13.88 seconds while Sidner finished with a time of 14.15.

Maloney was impressive once again in the 400-meter dash, one-hundreth of a second off her career-best time of 54.92, coming in first in the event and qualifying for the finals.

Meanwhile in the 100-meter dash, Geronne Black bested all comers in the preliminary race, taking the top-spot with a time of 11.83 seconds, with Brooks (12.02) taking fourth and Ratcliff (12.11) taking eighth, as all three are headed to the final round on Saturday.

Maloney broke through on the 200-meter event, qualifying for another sprint contest, tallying a season-best time of 24.31.
On the men's side the Viks had several athletes qualify for the finals.

Portland State distance newcomer Bianca Martin will also have an opportunity to score points for the Vikings, as she came in third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.92. Meanwhile teammate Camelia Mayfield scored four team points for the Vikings in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:02.52.

On the men's side J.J. Rosenberg punched his ticket to the scoring round with his time of 48.66 in the 400-meter dash, as did senior Tony Crisofulli. The Vail Colo. Native qualified for the finals in the 800-meter dash with his time of 1:54.04.

The day ended with Portland State in fifth place with 25 team points and with the men's team11th having yet to score team points. Northern Arizona is in the lead in the women's standings with 46.5 points with Sacramento State and Northern Arizona rounding out the top-3 with 40 points. On the men's side Weber State takes the top-spot into Saturday with 47.5 points while the Hornets (40.5) and Eastern Washington (35) secured the second and third-place spot, respectively.
