OGDEN,Utah – Following the most successful Big Sky indoor championship since 2006, the Portland State women's track and field team has earned a lot of respect heading into the outdoor season as the squad was picked to finish second according to the outdoor track and field Big Sky preseason poll.
In a vote by the head coaches of the 11 Big Sky track and field teams, Sacramento State took top billing, receiving 119 points and nine first place votes. Portland State was next taking 96 points with one first place vote.
Rounding out the women's poll Weber State took third (82) followed by Montana State (79), Idaho State (78), Northern Arizona (75 and one first place vote), Southern Utah (66), Montana (53), Eastern Washington (41), Northern Colorado (21) and North Dakota (16).
On the men's side Portland State was picked 11th garnering 23 points. Reigning champion Northern Arizona was picked first with 120 points and 10 of the 11 squads choosing them to finish first. Montana State took second with 104 points and one first place vote and Sac State was picked third.
Both Portland State squads are one meet in tallied over 25 top-10 finishes, competing at the Oregon Preview last weekend. Portland State will next be in action on March 27 and March 29-30 as the Viks will compete at the Texas Relays and the Willamette Invite, respectively.
