Déjà vu! Geronne Black Breaks 60-Meter Dash Record Once Again

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Just one week after breaking the program and conference 60-meter dash record for a second time this season, senior sprinter Geronne Black struck again, shaving .03 of a second off her previous best, at the Don Kirby Invitational, In Albuquerque, N.M., Friday night. The senior was the only Portland State athlete to compete at the first day of the event.

Black's time was .02 of a  second faster than second place entrant, Asia Cooper from Mississippi, as the senior from Brooklyn, N.Y., took first, besting 21 runners in the process. Black improves upon her time of 7.30 seconds, posted last week at the Armory Collegiate Invitational, when she recorded the sixth best time in the country.

While Black was competing in New Mexico, several Portland State student athletes were competing at the Husky Classic, in Seattle, Wash.

Both the men and women's team's took part in the 200-meter dash in the meet hosted by the University of Washington.

On  the women's side, Sierra Brooks tallied PSU's best time of 25.16 seconds, .01 of a second off a Big Sky Championship qualifying time, with a 13th place finish while Dominique Maloney finished close behind with a time of 25.18. Jazmin Ratcliff also ran the event and posted a time of 25.44

On the men's side J.J. Rosenberg was the fastest PSU entrant in the event, recording a time of 22.57 seconds and taking 18th overall. Sheldon Prince finished 29th in the event with a time of 22.76 while Jake Ovgard recorded a time of 23.12.
