Geronne Black Named Big Sky Athlete of the Week for the Third Time in 2013

OGDEN, Utah – Senior sprinter Geronne Black kept the Portland State, Big Sky weekly accolade streak going as she tallied the Viks' fourth straight conference honor and her third of the 2013 season, as she was named  Big Sky Athlete of the Week.

In what was a homecoming last weekend at the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City, Black looked right at home and tallied a record-setting performance, registering the new program and Big Sky record in the 60-meter dash.

This is the second time this season that Black has broken her own record in the event, previously setting the mark at the Cherry and Silver Invitational two weekends ago.

Black bested 58 runners, including many of the nation's top sprinters, to set the new Portland State and conference standard of 7.30 seconds. Her time is now ranked sixth best in country as she lost out to only LSU's Kimberlyn Duncan and Clemson's Dezerea Bryant in the race.

Black and the Portland State men and women's track and field teams will be back at this weekend when split squads travel to Albuquerque, N.M. and Seattle, Wash., for the Don Kirby Open and the Husky Classic, scheduled for Feb. 8-9.
