Portland State Track and Field Concludes the Husky Classic


SEATTLE, Wash. – The Portland State track and field teams concluded the second day of the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Saturday, with Sierra Brooks highlighting the event with a Big Sky Championship qualifying mark in the long jump.
 
Brooks secured a distance of 5.67-meters (18-07.25) coming in fifth in the event with 36 other entrants.
 
On the women's side the Camelia Mayfield returned to the scene where she set the new PSU record in the 5,000-meter event at the UW Invitational. This time she took part in the 3,000m and recorded a time of 10:14.56.
 
In the 60-meter hurdles Jazmin Ratcliff posted a top-15 time, coming in with a mark of 8.88 seconds and a 12th place finish. She also competed in the 60-meter dash, along with Anaiah Rhodes as the two placed 10th (7.78) and 6th (7.61) respectively.
 
In the field events Montaisha Moore took part in the triple jump with a mark of 11.38-meters (37-04.00) while both Joenisha Vinson and Sydney Johnson competed in the shot put, placing 27th and 29th with marks of 12.27m (40-03.25) and 12.05 (39-06.50), respectively.
 
On the men's side Neal Seibert and Briley Beaton were the only track athletes to compete as Seibert nearly qualified for the Big Sky Championship in the 1-mile run, with a mark of 4:32.64. Meanwhile Beaton took 25th in the 400m with a time of 50.53.
 
Sean MacKelvie and Tyson Stipic represented in the field events both competing in the triple jump as the duo placed 11th and 13th, respectively, with marks of 13.60 (44-07.50) and 13.03 (42-09.00).
 
The teams will next be in action at the Pilot Indoor event scheduled for Feb. 17.
