Geronne Black finished 16th overall in the women's 100-meter dash in the national quarterfinals Friday afternoon at the NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas but just missed advancing to the national semifinals.
Black finished fourth in her heat and 16th overall with a time of 11.51. The top three from each heat, as well as the next three fastest times, advanced to the national semifinals. The third place time in her heat was 11.43 by Paris Daniels of Kansas. Chaniqua Corinealdi of Texas Christian was the 12th and final qualifier out of the West Regional with a time of 11.41.
Black has had a tremendous year in both indoor and outdoor events. She set the Portland State and Big Sky all-time records in the indoor 60-meters at the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championship. She then set the Portland State and Big Sky all-time record in the outdoor 100-meter dash on Thursday in the first round at the West regional with a time of 11.39.
Not only has she set records individually this season she has teamed up with fellow sprinters
Sierra Brooks,
Anaiah Rhodes and
Jazmin Ratcliff to set the Portland State and the Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championship record in the 4x100-meter dash with a time of 45.19.
Black and the rest of the Portland State 4x100-meter relay team will run Saturday in the national quarterfinals at the West Regional. The top three relay teams in each of the three heats, as well as the next three fastest teams will advance to the national semifinals on Wednesday, June 6 in Des Moines, Iowa.
