Black, Mackelvie Anchor Vikings’ NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Regional Declarations


NEW ORLEANS, La.Geronne Black and Sean Mackelvie along with the women's 4x100-meter relay team were all accepted to the NCAA West Regional in Austin, Texas it was announced Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
 
Black is coming off a 2012 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championship in the women's 100-meter dash after leading the conference in the event the entire season. Black's regional qualifying mark of 11.52 broke the Big Sky and Portland State all-time records at the Brutus Hamilton Open/Invitational on April 28. Her time is the 19th fastest declared entry.  
 
Black will join fellow sprinters Sierra Brooks, Anaiah Rhodes and Jazmin Ratcliff in the women's 4x100-meter relay at the West Regional as well. The group took home the gold medal at the Big Sky Outdoor Championship last weekend with a Portland State all-time record setting time of 45.19. Their time also broke the Big Sky Outdoor Championship record for the event. The Vikings make it in as the 21st declared team out of 24 accepted entries.
 
On the men's side, senior thrower Mackelvie will represent the Vikings in the men's javelin. Mackelvie brought home the gold in the event at the Big Sky Outdoor Championship with a distance of 221-10 (67.61m). His throw set a new personal best and third all-time mark at Portland State.
 
The NCAA Division I 2012 Outdoor Track & Field West Regional is set for May 24-26 in Austin hosted by the University of Texas at Austin.
