Dove Canyon, CA - Portland State placed ninth at the Anteater Invitational, hosted by UC Irvine at Dove Canyon Country Club. Washington State won the tournament title with a 54-hole score of 904. BYU was second at 910. The Vikings shot 316-313-318=947 for ninth among 15 teams competing.

Sophomore Loren Forney recorded her best 54-hole tournament score as a Viking, shooting 78-76-79=233 over the two-day event. Forney tied for 24th place among 80 golfers. Just one shot behind Forney were Britney Yada and Tiffany Schoning. Yada, a junior, had her best round on Tuesday, finishing at 78-80-76=234 to tie for 28th place. Schoning, a senior, was also in 28th with 78-77-79=234.

Mallory Kent of Washington State came from behind to claim the individual title. Kent posted a seven-over par 220, carding 71-75-74. Amelia Ek of UC Riverside was in second at 73-72-76=221.

Portland State entered the tournament rated 11th among the 15 teams competing, so a ninth-place finish was a solid performance. The Vikings split with the two other Big Sky Conference schools in the event. PSU led Sacramento State by a shot going into Tuesday's play, but the Hornets shot 308, leapfrogging the Vikings and Montana, to place eighth with 938. The Grizzlies finished in 10th place with 950.

Sophomore Samantha Webb tied for 64th place for the Vikings, recording 83-80-84=247. Freshman Kelly Miller tied for 68th at 82-83-85=250.

• Loren Forney's previous best 54-hole score was 235 at the Rose City Collegiate on Sept. 27-28, 2010. This week marked the first time in 12 54-hole tournaments at PSU that Forney has shot all three rounds in the 70s.
• Forney proved to be one of the most consistent players in the event, posting a tournament-best 35 pars over 54 holes. Britney Yada tied for third with 34 pars and also led the event in par-3 scoring (3.00).
• Portland State is 16-8 in head-to-head scoring with Big Sky schools this season, 43-66-1 overall.
