Worley, ID
- Senior Tiffany Schoning shot a final-round two-under par 70 to lead the Portland State women's golf team to a second-place tie at the Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational. PSU tied San Francisco at 922 through 54 holes, nine shots behind winner Washington State (913). The Vikings lost a scorecard playoff for second place to USF (a comparison of the fifth score from the final round).

Schoning finished in third place on the individual leaderboard, climbing from a tie for 10th after two rounds. She shot 74-78-70 for a six-over par 222 score. Her final round score was the best among 116 golfers on Tuesday.

Junior Britney Yada was one shot back in fourth place with 73-74-76=223. The individual title was won by Caitlin McCleary of Seattle. McCleary took a five-shot win with an even par 70-70-76=216.

PSU entered Tuesday's play tied for fifth. The Vikings' team score of 305 was its best of the three rounds and third-best among the 22 teams competing on Tuesday. PSU was steady overall at 307-310-305=922. The Vikings also outplayed the other six Big Sky Conference schools competing in the tournament at Circling Raven Resort. The nearest Big Sky finisher was 11th-place Montana at 941.

Portland State got a final-round 78 from sophomore transfer Samantha Webb. Playing in her first event as a Viking, Webb improved from her first day play to shoot 82-82-78=242, placing in a tie for 78th among 116 golfers.

Sophomore Loren Forney tied for 46th overall. She shot 78-76-83=237.

Emily Podlesny, a freshman, also improved on the final day. She recorded 89-84-81 to place 107th.

Two Vikings played as individuals during the tournament, sophomore Katie Ortman and freshman Kelly Miller. Their scores did not count toward the team score. Miller placed 95th with 83-82-84=249. Ortman was 112th with 86-84-89=259.

TAP-INS: The Vikings were playing in their first of four fall tournaments… only two regular starters return to this year's team - senior Tiffany Schoning and junior Britney Yada - but both were first team All-Big Sky Conference performers last season… the Vikings tie for second was an improvement over last year's eighth-place finish at the Circling Raven Invitational… Loren Forney's second-round 76 was her best score in 21 career rounds…  the Vikings are 6-0 in head-to-head scoring with Big Sky Conference schools. Last year, they went 30-1 against BSC schools… PSU returns to play next week at the WSU Cougar Cup at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.
