Fresno, CA - A remarkable three-under par 69 by Britney Yada highlighted the final day of play as Portland State placed fourth at the Fresno State Lexus Classic.

Yada, a sophomore, made four birdies on the day and went to the final hole with a chance to tie the school record 18-hole score of 68. A final bogey left her at three-under 69. Still, it marks the 10th time in school history that a Viking has shot three-under par for a round - including Yada's 69 on Mar. 8, 2010 at the UNLV Spring Invitational (exactly one year ago).

The 69 also matched the low round of the tournament at the Lexus Classic. Yada climbed all the way from a tie for 25th to 10th place with her final-day performance, shooting 76-81-69=226. It was her fourth straight top-10 in tournament play.

As a team, the Vikings shot their best score of the 54-hole tournament played at Copper River Country Club on Tuesday. PSU came in at 301 for the round, finishing at 304-311-301=916.

Eighteenth-ranked UC Davis won the 16-team Lexus Classic by 17 shots, shooting 295-306=292=893. Cal Poly came in second at 910 followed by San Francisco at 913. The Vikings, who started the day in fourth place, finished three shots behind USF.

Katrina Hegge won the individual portion of the tournament. Hegge, from San Francisco, took a three-stroke victory over Alice Kim of UC Davis. Hegge recorded 73-72-71 for an even-par 216. Kim came in at 219.

All five Vikings placed in the top half of the 84-player field. Junior Tiffany Schoning turned in the most consistent tournament of any Viking, recording rounds of 77-76-75=228. She placed in a tie for 12th.

Senior Alexia Brown had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday. Brown shot 79-78-76=233 over the two days.

Freshman Lauren Taylor shot 76-77-81=234 and placed in a tie for 30th. Senior Kalyn Dodge came in at 75-80-82=237 to tie for 41st.

TAP-INS: The school-record round of 68 was shot by former Viking Taya Battistella in the first round of the 2003 Big Sky Conference Championship… Yada now has four career sub-par rounds in less than two seasons. She led the team in scoring for the second time this year and tenth time in her career… Schoning leads the team with a 75.89 scoring average this season… the Vikings beat the only other Big Sky Conference team in the field, Sacramento State (975, 14th). PSU is now 12-1 in head-to-head scoring against Big Sky Conference schools in 2010-11, and 54-19-1 against all schools this year… PSU has finished fourth or better in five of six full-field events this year…. last year, Portland State placed ninth among 14 teams at the Fresno State Lexus Classic, shooting 917 over 54 holes. Britney Yada shot 74-71-75=220 to tie for ninth… senior Alexia Brown has now played 100 career competitive rounds as a Viking, becoming just the fourth player to reach the milestone.
