Palm Desert, CA - Britney Yada shot a two-under par 70 in the final round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Invitational on Sunday, finishing in a tie for 17th. Her performance aided the Portland State women in moving up from 10th to ninth place in the final round.

PSU shot 341-321-316=961 in the 54-hole event at The Classic Club. San Diego State came from 10 shots behind leader Fresno State to win the tournament with 297-305-286=888. FSU dropped to second at 295-297-312=904.

Portland State was among seven Big Sky Conference schools playing in the tournament. The Vikings were third in that group behind Northern Arizona (942) and Northern Colorado (948).

Christine Wong of San Diego State shot a final round three-under par 69 to win the individual title (even-par 216) by four shots over NAU's Kaitlen Parsons (220).

Yada's 70 was the second-best round of the day and allowed her to finish with 79-82-70=231. It was a big improvement after a struggling day one.

Senior Tiffany Schoning started the day tied for 14th, but shot an 83 to drop to a tie for 27th at 78-76-83=237.

Sophomore Samantha Webb had a steady tournament with 82-82-81=245. She placed 46th among 84 golfers.

Freshman Kelly Miller shot an 82 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 58th (250). Sophomore Loren Forney tied for 70th with a total of 258.

TAP-INS: Yada's 70 was her best round of the fall and her 10th under-par round of her career (in 75 rounds) - a school record. She finishes with a fall scoring average of 77.25… Schoning is the team scoring leader with a 76.25 average through 12 fall rounds… the Vikings were 14-5 in head-to-head scoring against Big Sky schools during the fall, 32-27-1 against all schools… PSU returns to play at the Wildcat Invitational, Feb. 5-7, at Golf Club at Vistoso in Oro Valley, AZ.
