Junior
Tiffany Schoning tied for medalist honors in a one-round, 21-player triangle tournament with Oregon State and the University of Washington on Sunday at Washington National Golf Club.
Schoning shot a two-over par 74 on the 6,290-yard course as PSU, OSU and Washington's "B" squad met at challenging Washington National, which will host an NCAA Regional next spring.
Oregon State led the way with a team score of 309. Portland State and Washington each shot 316.
Sophomore
Britney Yada shot 77 to tie for fifth for the Vikings. Freshman
Lauren Taylor, playing as an individual shot 78 and tied for seventh.
Also playing for the Vikings were
Kalyn Dodge with 81 (t11),
Alexia Brown with 84 (t16),
Loren Forney with 89 (t18) and
Katie Ortman with 100 (21).
"The course played really long, which is what you would expect at an NCAA Regional event, so it was good to play Washington National. We know what to expect in May and now can make a game plan to play the course smarter," said Viking Coach Kathleen Takaishi.
"Tiffany played really well and was three-under par after her first five holes. But we had too many doubles and triples."
CHIP SHOTS: Portland State has one more tournament in the fall season. The Vikings will travel to the Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, Nov. 2-4, in Kahuku, HI... the winner of the Big Sky Conference Championship next spring will earn an automatic berth into an NCAA Regional, likely the West Regional at Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, WA.
