Tory Yamaguchi

Tory Yamaguchi is in her third year as an assistant coach at Portland State after spending the previous three seasons as the assistant pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at UCONN.

Yamaguchi spent three seasons with UCONN helping the Huskies lower their team earned run average nearly a full point from 4.20 to 3.32. She also helped improve the pitching staff's walk-to-strikeout ratio as well as decrease their opponent's batting average.

Yamaguchi previously spent two years at Indiana where she served as one of the program's assistant coaches. She coached four All-Big Ten honorees as well as one who earned All-Region honors.

The Philadelphia Force selected Yamaguchi in the fourth round of the 2008 National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft. She played two years for the Force.

At Indiana, Yamaguchi was a four-time letterwinner as a catcher and graduated in 2007 as one of the program's best hitters; she still holds the career home-run record (40). She earned All-Big Ten honors and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team all four years. She led the Hoosiers twice in both batting average and hits and three times in home runs.

Before arriving at Indiana, Yamaguchi was a standout player at Chaminade College Preparatory in West Hills, Calif. where she was named the team's best defensive performer and First Team All-Mission League following her senior season. She was also a member of the 16th Annual Los Angeles Daily News All-Star West Team and First Team Los Angeles Times All-Region Team that year.

Yamaguchi has also served as a private pitching, catching, and hitting instructor in Bloomington, Ind. and as an assistant coach at Granada Hills High School in Granada Hills, Calif. in 2006.

A native of Woodland Hills, Calif., Yamaguchi graduated from Indiana in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and earned a Master of Science degree in kinesiology - applied sport science from Indiana in 2009.
