RECAPS - DAY 1 | DAY 2

POCATELLO, Idaho —
The Academy Awards may be Sunday, but senior Genna Settle had her Leonardo DiCaprio at the Oscars moment Saturday, as the Viking sprinter broke through for her first Big Sky indoor titles with a 60-200 title sweep on the final day of the Big Sky Indoor Championships at Holt Arena.

Settle, despite being a three-time All-Big Sky honoree indoors, had never won a Big Sky indoor individual title before Saturday, but snapped out of that with authority, winning the 60 and 200 meters with personal bests in each event.

Settle became just the second Viking ever to sweep the 60- and 200-meter titles at a single Big Sky Indoor Championship, joining Jernise Saunders, who first did it in 2009.

Settle capped the sweep with a record performance in the 200 meters, as she broke the school, championship and conference records with her time of 23.75 seconds. Settle's time edged out the records former Viking and World Outdoor Championship qualifier Karene King set at 23.77 seconds in 2012.

Settle won the 200 by more than a quarter of a second, as Northern Colorado's Moriah Zachary finished second in 24.02 seconds. Zachary came into the Big Sky meet leading Settle in the 200 meters, and edged Settle for the top qualifying time from Friday by a hundredth of a second. Settle got out to a fast start ahead of Zachary in the second heat of the final, however, and powered to the finish line to beat Zachary with her record time.

Settle's record win in the 200 came just 45 minutes after she won the finals of the 60 meters in a personal-best 7.44 seconds. Settle's time in the 60 tied her for fifth all-time in the Big Sky record book, and moved her into a tie for third all-time with Saunders in the Portland State record book as well.

Settle's title sweep marked the second-best single championship performance by a Viking at the Big Sky Indoor meet, tying Saunders and Joenisha Vinson, who each scored 20 points in 2009 and 2013, respectively. Gayle Imran-Sideris owns the best single championship performance by a Viking at the indoor meet, as she scored 21 points at the 2006 conference meet.

Besides Settle, senior Akayla Anderson also earned All-Big Sky honors Saturday, as she placed second in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles for the third straight time with a personal-best time of 8.38 seconds. Anderson finished second to Weber State's Tawnie Moore, who had led the Big Sky in the 60-meter hurdles for most of the season and edged out Anderson with her time of 8.32 seconds in the finals Saturday.

Freshman Kamal-Craig Golaube tied the school record in the men's 60-meter-hurdle final, as he finished fourth in a time of 8.22 seconds. Golaube tied Peter Jason Tait's school record from 2008, and became the Viking men's first scorer in the indoor 60-meter hurdles since DeShawn Shead in 2011.

A number of other Vikings scored on the men's side Saturday between Mitchell Gable in the 400 meters, Ben Richardson in the 800 meters, Keegan Winkle in the pole vault and Jean-Luc Toku in the triple jump.

Winkle became the first Viking to score in the men's pole vault since Ben Cogdill in 2007, as he tied for fifth with a mark of 15-00.00 (4.57m). Winkle's clearance set a new indoor personal best for the Viking sophomore, and moved him up to second all-time at Portland State. Winkle only trails Cogdill now in the indoor pole vault, as Cogdill set the school record at 15-06.75 (4.74m) in 2007.

Toku scored with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump while setting a personal best with his mark of 47-04.25 (14.43m). Senior Christian Wood also set a new personal best in the triple jump, as he finished 13th with a mark of 45-01.50 (13.75m) to beat his old personal best by two and a half feet. Wood also moved up to eighth all-time at Portland State in the indoor triple jump, while Toku remained at No. 3 all-time.

Richardson, meanwhile, missed out on the All-Big Sky honors in the 800 meters that he achieved last season, but still scored while placing fifth in 1:52.86.

Gable scored with a seventh-place finish in the 400 meters despite having to tough out a bad hamstring while limping to the finish in 57.54.

The Viking women also scored with a seventh-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The Vikings finished the relay in 3:50.99, moving them up to sixth all-time in the event at Portland State.

Despite the strong performances Saturday, the Vikings did not have anybody move into qualifying position for the NCAA Indoor Championships, meaning the Vikings will now wait till the Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif., on March 17-18 to open their 2017 outdoor season.
