A star defensive back for the Montana Grizzlies for five seasons, Robby Hauck joined the Portland State coaching staff as nickelbacks coach and assistant special teams coach in 2023.
Hauck is undoubtedly one of the young up-and-coming coaches in the Big Sky Conference. Coach Barnum elevated him to be Special Teams Coordinator in his second season. After coaching tight ends last season as well, Hauck moves back to the defensive side to coach his other specialty: safeties.
“We all know what a great background Robby has in coaching,” said Barnum. “He has shown he is knowledgeable and ready to be a special teams coordinator. That speaks to who he is and his work ethic.
Hauck coached two All-Big Sky Conference performers in 2024. Included were tight end Tanner Beaman and kicker Mathias Uribe. Those two return, along with the other special teams starters.
Hauck is in his first coaching position, however he spent time working with the San Diego State program immediately following his time at Montana.
A multiple All-Big Sky Conference and All-American selection during his career with the Griz, Hauck was given the Doris Robinson Award this past season for being the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in FCS football. He was also a finalist for National Defensive Player of the Year. Hauck was a three-time Academic All-American as well.
Hauck is the son of Montana Grizzlies Head Coach Bobby Hauck.
