Portland State University Athletics

Marissa Vasquez has been named the Assistant Athletic Trainer for Women’s Basketball/Football, beginning her work at Portland State University on June 2, 2025. Marissa is coming to PSU with a drive to build the Women’s Basketball program to excel and stay healthy alongside the coaching staff. 
 
Marissa graduated from Iowa State University with a Master’s in Athletic Training in May of 2024. She was a part of the change in requirements for the profession and got to experience a hybrid 3+2 program, gaining her Bachelor’s in Athletic Training in three years and then moving onto graduate school for two years. After graduation, Marissa took a year-long residency with Utah State University with Football and Men’s Tennis for the 2024-2025 season. 
 
Marissa prioritizes treating the athlete as a person first, and an athlete second. Marissa focuses largely on injury prevention and health maintenance, a vital component to keeping athletes healthy and performing.
 
Originally from Illinois, Marissa enjoys spending free time with her dog, Cash, and puzzling.
