David Gammage

David “DJ” Gammage was named an Assistant Athletic Trainer in the Sports Medicine Department and assigned to the Men’s Basketball Team in July of 2025. DJ joins PSU with extensive experience in sports rehabilitation and emergency medicine.

As an Arizona native, DJ earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and Master’s of Science degree in Athletic Training both from Northern Arizona University. During his master’s program he gained experience in the field in both the secondary school and division one levels. This included interning at McClintock High School in his hometown of Tempe. Additionally, he spent a year interning at the University of Arizona with the Men’s Basketball Program. During his time with Arizona, DJ assisted in providing care to All-American athletes and NBA lottery picks while helping the team make a Sweet 16 appearance.

Prior to pursuing a career in Athletic Training, DJ worked in the Physical Therapy field as a technician. Learning the basics of rehab design, manual therapy and modality use. He later advanced his skills working as a Stretch Therapist to aid clients who were experiencing pain due to a lack of mobility.

DJ is an Emergency Medical Technician, and has worked in various settings including the wild-land fire setting where he provided essential care to fire fighters.

DJ lives by his core values of always making a positive impact on those around him and to treat all people with pride and respect. As a mentor once taught him, “Every moment brings a new opportunity to win the day.” He approaches the profession emphasizing to his athletes that “their body is their business” and to recover just as hard as they train.
