Andrew Pompei will serve as the strength and conditioning coach for the Portland State football program during the 2010 season. He began his tenure with the Vikings in March 2010, preceding spring practice.
Pompei will coordinate lifting and conditioning routines, along with nutrition guidelines for the team and will also run workouts for the Portland State men's and women's tennis teams.
Pompei is no stranger to Head Coach Nigel Burton and other staff members from Nevada as he was a Graduate Assistant for the Wolf Pack from Jan. 2009 to his hiring at PSU. There he served as the strength coach for women’s swimming and diving, women’s soccer and men’s and women’s golf. He developed and managed all workouts for the teams and also assisted with the football program.
Before beginning as a GA at Nevada, Pompei was an intern at Northern Arizona, where he worked with the Lumberjacks tennis programs.
Familiar to the area, Pompei is a native of Tigard and played football for former Portland State assistant coach Frank Geske. He played collegiately at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and was a teammate of current Buffalo Bills running back Freddy Jackson.
