Raina Hembry joined the Portland State women’s basketball program as the Director of Basketball Operations and Analysis ahead of the 2018-19 season. Hembry will assist with travel, scouting preparation, basketball data collection and organization, and statistical analysis. Hembry will also manage advanced scouting and develop analysis of future trends.
Hembry comes to the Vikings after playing volleyball at the University of Tennessee from 2013-16. Hembry was a four-year starter for the Volunteers, and finished with more than 90 blocks in each of her final two seasons. Hembry ended her career with 344 blocks, tying her for ninth all time at Tennessee at the time of her graduation.
Hembry was named to the all-tournament team at the College of Charleston Invitational and NC State tournament as a junior at Tennessee. Additionally, Hembry made the all-tournament team at the Cleveland State Tournament as a senior.
Hembry is a native of Portland, Ore., and played high school volleyball at Central Catholic. Hembry helped the Rams win three straight Oregon 6A state titles from her freshman to junior seasons. As a senior, Hembry was named to the first team all-conference after leading the Rams to the Mt. Hood Conference championship and a fifth-place finish at state.
Hembry was ranked as the 45th-best player in the class of 2013 by PrepVolleyball.com coming out of high school. Hembry was also named to Volleyball Magazine’s Girls’ Fab 50 list, which recognizes the top 50 seniors in the nation.
Hembry graduated from Tennessee with a Bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2017. Hembry will pursue an MBA at Portland State while working for the Vikings.
