Colby Matney

Colby Matney enters his third year on the Park Blocks after joining the Portland State women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach on July 16, 2011.

A native of Sandy, Ore., Matney spent three seasons (2008-11) as an assistant at Concordia University in Portland before coming over to the Park Blocks. His duties for the Vikings include working with the guards and defense, as well as scouting opponents and recruiting.

Matney spent the 2005-07 seasons as an assistant at Columbia University in New York and was an assistant for the 2002-03 season at the University of Nevada. Matney was on the men’s staff at Concordia during the 2001-02 season and was the head coach of a men’s club team in Germany in 2000. He got his start in the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant for Nevada, where he worked from 1996-98.

A certified strength and conditioning specialist, Matney served in that capacity at the University of Portland from 1999-2000. He graduated from Concordia in 1995 with a degree in business, before receiving his master’s in physical education from Nevada in 1998.

Matney and his wife, Julie, reside in Milwaukie.
