PORTLAND STATE VIKINGS

Nick Trubachik

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Track Coach
Nick Trubachik was announced as a volunteer assistant coach for the Portland State track team Oct. 11, 2010. Trubachik will primarily assist the Vikings with the multi-events, but will also assist with the Vikings sprinters and hurdlers. He was hired along with former Oregon all-american Kalindra McFadden.

"It's a tremendous opportunity for the student-athletes," laughed Head Coach  Ronnye Harrison, "They bring youthful experience. We (as coaches) know how great they are, but when the athletes know how great they are ... It sets a standard for the program. It sets a standard for the athletes to aspire to – to get to that all-american level."

Trubachik, no stranger to the Park Blocks, competed at Portland State from 2007-10 and became the Vikings first all-american since 1996. He was also the first male to compete at the Division I level for PSU.

He won back-to-back heptathlon championships at the Big Sky Indoor Championships in 2009 and 2010 and won the decathlon at the outdoor championship in 2008 and 2010. He was named the Big Sky's Outdoor Championship Field Athlete of the Meet in 2010 with his score of 7,390, nearly breaking the all-time championship mark of 7,477 points, and qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

At the 2010 NCAA Championships, Trubachik rallied to a seventh-place finish and a score of 7,510 to earn all-america honors and the right to compete at the USA Track & Field Championships. There he finished eighth with a score of 7,434 and went on to compete for Team USA at the NACAC U23 Championships and finished second on the international level.
