PORTLAND STATE VIKINGS

Kevin Robinson

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant (Hurdles and Multis)
Fresh off stamping his name all over the Viking record book as a senior captain in 2016, Kevin Robinson joined the Viking coaching staff as a volunteer assistant for 2017 in charge of hurdles and multi-events. He will enter his second year as a coach for the Portland State track & field programs in 2017-18.

Robinson helped lead Donté Robinson to back-to-back second-place finishes in the indoor heptathlon and outdoor decathlon in 2017, making him the first Viking to earn all-conference honors in both multi-events since Nick Trubachik won both in 2010. Additionally, Robinson assisted Akayla Anderson in placing second in the Big Sky in the indoor 60- and outdoor 100-meter hurdles during the season. Freshman Kamal-Craig Golaube also tied the school record for the men's 60-meter hurdles during the indoor season.

As a Viking athlete, Robinson placed fourth in the heptathlon at the 2016 Big Sky Indoor Championships as a senior, as well as fifth in the decathlon at the 2016 Big Sky Outdoor Championships.

Robinson set personal bests in both the heptathlon and decathlon at both Big Sky indoor and outdoor meets as a senior, finishing with scores of 4,767 points and 6,462 points, respectively. Robinson’s scores ranked him sixth all-time at Portland State in the heptathlon at the time, as well as seventh all-time in the decathlon.

Robinson had a good year all-around as a senior, as he was also a member of the Viking men’s school record-breaking 4x400-meter relay team, which broke a five-year-old record with its time of 3:14.43 at the Big Sky outdoor meet. Robinson also moved into a tie for fourth and sixth all-time in the 60- and 110-meter hurdles, respectively, as a senior, as well as tied for sixth and tied for ninth all-time in the indoor and outdoor high jump.

Robinson graduated from Portland State with a Bachelors of Science in Community Health Education in June 2016. Since graduation, Robinson has worked as an umpire/referee and head recruiter/manager for Underdog Sports Leagues, which he has been working for since March 2014.

Robinson also spoke to the Cleveland High School track and field team in May 2016, and worked as a track & field coach for Five Oaks Middle School and for the Round-Up City Racers Club.

Robinson is engaged to Maile Chong, and has two dogs, Diesel and Kona.
