Quinton Upshur joined the Portland State Athletics staff in September 2021 as an Academic Advisor and Director of Player Development for Men’s Basketball. He was elevated to the role of assistant coach prior to the 2022-23 season.
"My loyalty to him was an important factor in this hire," said Viking Head Coach Jase Coburn. "He has done a great job for this program and worked really hard for us. His ability to communicate with the players was also a big factor because he already has existing relationships with them.
"Q's playing experience in the Big Sky Conference was also important to this role. I coached against him when he was at Northern Arizona. He also played for (PSU Assistant) Coach
Matt Dunn while he was there.
"He is very passionate, has a great basketball mind and a great future in this profession."
Upshur worked the 2020-21 academic year as Director of Student-Athlete Development at the University of Mount Olive in North Carolina.
Upshur is originally from Norfolk, VA. He played basketball at Northern Arizona, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2015. Upshur went on to play five years of professional basketball overseas. He earned a Master’s in Sports Administration from Liberty University in 2019.
