Anthony Owens has worked with Tyler Geving and the Viking program since Geving was named Head Coach in 2009. His role in recruiting and on-court coaching continues to expand.
Owens came to Portland State after being an assistant coach at College of Eastern Utah. The Eagles went 25-7 during his year there (2008-09). Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for two years at Eastern Arizona College. EAC went 53-13 over those two years, reaching the Region 1 Tournament finals two years in a row, and advancing to the national tournament in 2007-08.
“I got to know Anthony through recruiting his players in recent years,” said Geving. “I am impressed with the contacts that he has had in Arizona and Utah junior colleges. He brings experience in recruiting from outside the northwest as we look to expand our recruiting base.”
Owens starred at the University of Great Falls where he led the conference in rebounding. Prior to that he played at Arkansas-Fort Smith junior college, and was part of a team that compiled a 55-11 record over two seasons.
Owens earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2006 from Great Falls.
