Max Munson was named Associate Director of Sports Medicine and Head Football Athletic Trainer at Portland State University on June 2nd, 2025. He is a native Oregonian, born in North Bend and raised in Portland.Â

Prior to coming to the Park Blocks, Max was an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Portland starting in 2020, working primarily with the Women’s Basketball Program and Men’s and Women’s Track and Field. During his time on The Bluff with Portland Women’s Basketball, he was part of two West Coast Conference Tournament Championships and one WCC Regular Season Championship, participating in the Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament in 2023 and 2024. The program set a single season record for wins in 2024-2025. Â

Before his time at Portland, Max was the Athletic Trainer for the College of San Mateo in San Mateo, CA from 2017-2019. There he worked with all sports with a focus in football and baseball. During his tenure The CSM Football Program won three straight Bay League championships and won the Northern California championship in 2017 and 2019. Â

Max received his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from Oregon State University in 2012, and began his Athletic Training career at Ashland High School in Ashland, OR. He later pursued a Graduate Assistant position at San Jose State University, where he was hired on full time and worked for Santa Clara University with Women’s Basketball.Â
