Biography

Outstanding athlete who is a dual threat quarterback... elusive and fast as a runner... has proven to be accurate as a thrower... has the ability to dominate a game... started 22 straight games and is approaching all-time top-10s at Portland State in passing yards (3,541), passing touchdowns (35), rushing touchdowns (19) and total offense (4,919)... also has 1,378 career rushing yards... two-time Big Sky Conference Player of the Week... a team co-captain... last name pronounced “SASH-er-ay”.

JUNIOR SEASON • 2023

Continued his role as offensive leader, starting all 11 games for the second season in a row... completed 143 of 231 passes (.619) for 1,573 yards, 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions... rushed 113 times for 629 yards and 10 touchdowns... had 773 positive yards, not counting sacks... had a 100-yard rushing game and five of 83 yards or more... had 2,202 yards of total offense and was responsible for 26 touchdowns... during the regular season, ranked third in the Big Sky in passing touchdowns, fifth in rushing touchdowns, seventh in total offense and 10th in rushing yards... for the second straight season he torched Northern Arizona (10/14), completing 14-19 passes for 159 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions, and rushing 12 times for 83 yards and a score... was responsible for all six Viking touchdowns in a 45-21 win and earned Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors... the five-TD passing game matched his career-high of five in 2022 against Lincoln… against Northern Colorado (11/18), accounted for all four touchdowns with three rushing and one passing... had a season-high 123 rushing yards and 175 yards passing... might have had bigger season numbers, but blowout wins over North American (9/16) and Cal Poly (9/23) limited his playing time... in little more than a half in each of those games he was 14-19 passing (.737) for 145 yards and four touchdowns and rushed six times for 132 yards and two touchdowns... PSU scored 150 combined points in those two wins... a team co-captain.

SOPHOMORE SEASON • 2022

Took over as the leader on offense and started all 11 games at quarterback... completed 148-248 passes for 1,956 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions... completed nearly 60% overall... also the team leader in rushing with 110 carries for 609 yards and seven touchdowns... had 772 positive yards, not counting sacks only had two negative rushing plays... three 100-yard rushing games... finished with 2,565 yards of total offense... during the regular season ranked fourth in passing touchdowns, seventh in total offense, eighth in passing yards in the Big Sky... opened his career as a starter in impressive fashion, completing 24 of 37 passes for 270 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and rushing 14 times for 83 yards in a close loss to bowl-bound San Jose State (9/1)... his home debut was also impressive, completing 22 of 28 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Northern Arizona (10/1)... had 402 yards of total offense as he rushed 12 times  for 128 yards and two more TDs... was responsible for all five scores and earned Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honors... threw for a season-high 280 yards and five touchdowns, and rushed for a sixth in an easy win over Lincoln (10/8)... had a season-high 141 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries in a win at Eastern Washington (10/29)... completed 17-22 passes for 201 yards and a score in that game... was 13-20 passing for 269 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Northern Colorado (11/5)... rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown at Cal Poly (11/19) but missed the second half with an injury.

FRESHMAN SEASON • 2021

Played in six games as a backup quarterback... rushed 10 times for 48 yards... also completed one pass for 12 yards... rushed four times for 31 yards and completed a 12-yard pass in the win over Idaho State (10/16)... rushed three times for 24 yards in the spring game against Montana.

REDSHIRT SEASON • 2019

Able to compete in three games and maintain his redshirt status... rushed 10 times for 68 yards and two touchdowns in spot duty... had seven carries for 65 yards and two touchdowns against Simon Fraser (9/7)... did not throw a pass.

BEFORE PORTLAND STATE

Played football and basketball at Clovis West High School… completed 126-219 passes for 1,122 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions in 10 games as a senior… rushed 93 times for 629 yards (6.8) and one touchdown… named team MVP and first team All-League… as a junior completed 276-440 passes for 3,462 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 12 games…. rushed 59 times for 441 yards (7.5)… named team Offensive MVP… was first team All-League… picked as second team All-League in basketball… also team defensive MVP… team was conference champion his junior year… has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll each semester of high school.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Son of Derrick and Romy Chachere… has four brothers, Mitchell, Derrick, Marcus and Andre… Andre is a member of the Arizona Cardinals... has earned his degree in Communication Studies, now working on a graduate degree in Educational Leadership and Policy… hobbies are playing video games, hanging out with his family and working out… a Special Olympics Volunteer and youth athletic volunteer.
