Stacy Collins joined the Portland State football staff in July as the new special teams coordinator. Collins will work with two of the top special teams players in the country at the FCS level in juniors Zach Brown and Thomas Duyndam. Brown ranked third in the nation in field goals (18) while Duyndam was 11th in punting (42.6 ypp).
Collins comes to PSU after spending three years at Central Washington as Special Teams Coordinator and linebackers coach. He has been in coaching for 13 seasons.
In three seasons with the Wildcat program, Collins coached an All-American and two-time first-team all-GNAC kicker Garrett Rolsma, as well as first-team all-conference kick returners Courtney Smith (2008) and Jerome Williams (2009).
While a special teams coordinator at Western Washington, Collins coached punter Mike Koenen, who is currently in his seventh season in the NFL.
Collins’ experience in the coaching field includes stops at Southern Oregon University (2007), Idaho State (2005-06), Western Washington (2003-04), and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (2002). He played (1993-97) and coached (1998-2001) at Western Oregon. Collins earned a degree in Physical Education at Western Oregon in 1998, then earned a Masters in Education in 2001. He lettered for four seasons as a linebacker at Western Oregon.
Collins has also coached overseas, spending three seasons with the Vienna Vikings in Austria from 1999-2001. During his stint with the Vikings, Collins served in roles as defensive coordinator, interim head coach, and director of player personnel, helping Vienna win three consecutive Austrian National Championships.
Collins, a native of Sutherlin, Ore., has been married to wife Mandi since July 2002. The couple has three children, daughters Kayla (7), Mackenzie (5), and newborn Kylee.
