Michael Casco joined the Portland State coaching staff in 2011 in the role of offensive quality control coach and assistant director of operations. In 2012, he took on the roles of assistant special teams coach, and assistant recruiting coordinator. He now has taken over as Special Teams Coordinator.

Casco helps develop the Viking kicking game and coverage schemes. He also plays a big part in identifying and recruiting the talented players of the future for Portland State.

In 2013, he worked specifically with Kyle Loomis, the nation’s leading punter and a consensus All-American. The coverage unit led the nation, the kick coverage unit led the Big Sky, and PSU also had one of the top kick returners in the conference.

This year, Casco will be charged with developing a more consistent kicking game to bolster the Viking offense.

Before coming to Portland State, Casco spent three years coaching at football powerhouse Mt. Union (OH), an NCAA III program. He coached running backs, tight ends and safeties in respective seasons. Mt. Union was 43-2 over that span, winning a national championship.

Originally from Cleveland, OH, Casco graduated from Kent State in 2005 with a degree in Sports Management. He worked in the insurance industry for three years after college.

Recently, he was selected to take part in the NCAA Future Head Coaches Academy. While there he met Coach Nigel Burton and developed a relationship with the Viking program.
