Jason Belford is in his fourth season at Portland State as defensive line coach. 
Belford got outstanding production from his line in 2015, as it played a big role in the team’s overall defensive improvement that. All four of Belford’s regular starters on the line earned Big Sky honors. Sadat Sulleyman and Davond Dade were named second team All-Big Sky, Daniel Fusi was third team All-Big Sky and Michael Doman earned honorable mention.
In 2016, Belford had to replace Sulleyman and Fusi. But the addition of freshman Anthony Del Toro was seemless. Del Toro was named to the Hero Sports FCS All-Freshman Team.
Other youngsters, Kenton Bartlett, Sione Taumoe’anga and Mason Vega showed the promise of the defensive line’s future. Davond Dade and Dallas House also return, giving the Vikings depth for 2017.
Belford helped coach three Vikings to honorable mention All-Big Sky Conference in 2014; Brandon Tobias, Joe Lopez and Junior Alexis.
BACKGROUND
Belford spent 2012-13 coaching the defensive line at Weber State. He also worked two seasons as a graduate assistant at Washington State.
Belford is very familiar with the Big Sky Conference, having competed at Eastern Washington for four seasons. He was a second team All-Big Sky selection in 2008 as well as a team co-captain. Belford started 36 games for the Eagles and had 17 career sacks.
Belford is a native of Tacoma, WA.
