PORTLAND STATE VIKINGS

Evan Mozzochi

31369

Evan Mozzochi is in his sixth season at Portland State. In 2020, he will continue as quarterbacks and tight ends coach, while taking on added recruiting responsibilities.

His work in 2019 in that dual role proved successful as quarterback Davis Alexander had his finest season with 3,445 yards of total offense and 30 touchdowns. Tight end Charlie Taumopeau garnered more honors with an All-Conference nod and once again being named All-American.

Alexander returns with a group of young, talented quarterbacks behind him. Mozzochi will need to further develop his tight end group as Taumoepeau has gone on to the professional ranks.

In 2018, Mozzochi took on the challenge of a youthful wide receiver group that included five freshmen, three transfers and a combined total of two receptions going into the season. That bunch combined for 75 catches and eight touchdowns over the season, led by a combined 46 and six from starters Mataio Talalemotu and Emmanuel Daigbe, and they all return for 2019.

At quarterback, Mozzochi managed the dual threat of sophomores Davis Alexander and Jalani Eason as they combined for over 2,000 passing yards and 14 touchdowns, nearly 800 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, and both of them return in 2019.

Now a pair of experienced positions, Mozzochi should see even better results in the coming season.

Mozzochi led Darnell Adams to an All-Conference season in 2017. He also helped Josh Kraght transition from quarterback for three successful seasons at receiver. Those two combined for nearly 200 receptions, 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns in their careers.

BACKGROUND
Prior to coming to Portland State, Mozzochi coached quarterbacks at Western Oregon. Under his guidance in 2014, Western Oregon quarterbacks combined for 3,405 yards and 29 touchdowns. The Wolves led the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) in passing yards per game with an average of 309.5, including a season-high 413 against Portland State.

Mozzochi played two seasons for Western Oregon and tallied 2,846 passing yards, completing 203-374 passes with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Along with his performance in the air, Mozzochi tallied 196 yards rushing with six touchdowns. As a junior, Mozzochi led the GNAC in both passing efficiency rating at 137.2 and yards per completion with an average of 14.9.

Prior to playing at Western Oregon, Mozzochi spent three years at Idaho State University. He prepped at Columbia River High School in Vancouver, WA. He is the son of Portland State Volleyball Coaching Hall of Famers Jeff and Marty Mozzochi.
