2023 OUTDOOR:
Doubled in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters at the Portland Track Festival (6/3-4)...The 5k at the Portland Track Festival was his first collegiate 5k, and he finished in 16:45.84...Closed out his season in the 1,500 meters at the Portland Distance Carnival (5/12-13), finishing in 4:09.28...Cracked two minutes for the first time in the 800 meters while finishing in 1:59.98 at the OSU High Performance Meet (4/28-29)...Ran the 800 and 1,500 meters at the Larry Byerly L&C Invite (4/14-15), finishing in 2:02.56 and 4:08.75, respectively...Made his outdoor debut at the L&C Spring Break Open (3/17-18) with a time of 2:02.04 in the 800 meters...Also ran a leg of the Vikings' 4x400-meter relay team that finished in 3:35.40.
2023 INDOOR:
Bettered an eight-year-old personal best in the 800 meters while finishing in 2:05.46 at the Portland Indoor Two (2/5)...Ran a leg of the Vikings' 4x400-meter relay team, which finished in 3:53.14 at the Portland Indoor Two (2/5)...Opened his season at the Portland Indoor One (1/22), running the 800 meters in 2:08.15.
2022 CROSS COUNTRY:
Placed 149th overall out of 345 runners at the L&C Invite (10/15), finishing the 8k in 27:30.7...Finished as the Vikings' second runner at the Charles Bowles Invitational (10/1), placing 61st in the 8k in a time of 26:18.0...Made his Viking debut at the Viking Rust Buster (9/2), finishing 38th overall in the men's 6k in a time of 21:24.12.
BEFORE PORTLAND STATE:
Attended the University of Minnesota from 2017-21, competing for the Golden Gophers in his first two years at the school…Ran unattached as a freshman at Minnesota before competing in a jersey during the 2018 cross country and 2019 indoor track & field seasons…2016 MSHSL individual cross country state champion while his Edina High School team placed second as a team in 2016…Three-time Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) athlete and team qualifier…Helped lead his team to a ninth-place finish at Nike Cross Nationals in 2014…Finished third in the 3,200 meters at the MSHSL Track & Field State Championships in 2016.

Son of Robert and Marcela Ruiz Roos…Has fourth brothers, Paul, Jack, Joe and Mark…Began his coaching career at Canby High School in 2022…Coached the OSAA 800-meter champion, Tommy O’Neil, in 2022…Helped O’Neil, who will be running for Gonzaga, break a 43-year-old school record in the 800 meters at the state meet…Also coached the 2022 Nike Nationals freshman mile champion, Kenzie Bigej…Canby High School placed fourth as a team at the Boys 6A OSAA State Championships during his year coaching with the school…Lists basketball, golf, skateboarding, spike ball, hiking, traveling and coaching youth athletes as hobbies/interests…Hopes to work at Nike and continue to coach and develop the next generation of athletes…Earned his BS in Business Marketing at Minnesota…Enrolled in Portland State’s Athletic and Outdoor Industry graduate certificate program.
