Part of a renowned recruiting class and one of three top linebackers that signed in 2012... played right away and was perhaps the top freshman on the defense... just beginning to realize his abilities... should get bigger, stronger and better in the years to come.

FRESHMAN SEASON • 2012
    Played in nine games, seeing extensive action at linebacker and on special teams... started the season finale against fifth-ranked Eastern Washington (11/17), making a season-high seven tackles with a sack and a fumble recovery... also had five tackles against nationally-ranked Northern Arizona (9/29)... four tackles, two for losses with a pass breakup against second-ranked Montana State (11/10)... missed two games early in the season with injury... had 34 tackles to rank seventh on the team... added 4.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a fumble recovery, and two pass breakups.

PREVIOUS TO PORTLAND STATE
    Lettered in football four times, baseball twice and track twice at Lake Oswego High School... his team won the state championship in 2011... named second team All-State as a linebacker and a tight end... selected first team All-Three Rivers League as a linebacker and tight end... selected as linebacker MVP at Washington Nike camp in the summer of 2011... also lettered twice in track... chose Portland State over Eastern Washington and Dartmouth.

PERSONAL INFORMATION
    Son of Mark and Maggie Walen... born January 2, 1994... has one sister, Mackenzie... would like to major in Business... hobbies are bike riding, lifting weights, playing video games and playing with his dog, Bear... father Mark was a Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 1985 at UCLA and went on to play in the NFL.
