Vikings Edged by Portland, 4-3

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Portland State women's tennis closed out its non-conference schedule Sunday, falling short against University of Portland, 4-3, at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.

The Vikings (4-3) had dropped three of the last five meetings to the Pilots by a 4-3 margin, and that trend continued Sunday. UP (3-5) secured the opening point with wins on two doubles courts — a point that ultimately proved to be the difference. However, Hana Abdelhamid and Marta Giglio continued their dominance at the No. 1 spot, earning their fifth straight victory as a duo, 6-4, over Nadine Arbaizar Martinez and Alaia Rubo Perez.

Portland State's entire singles lineup played up a spot due to injury. Cecilia Dang filled in for the Vikings, making her debut in the lineup at line six. Despite the changes, the Vikings adjusted well, as Giglio, Abdelhamid and Hirayama all posted convincing wins.

Kasumi Hirayama defeated Martinez 6-3, 6-0 at line three, while Abdelhamid rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Flores at No. 4. After the Pilots clinched the match, Giglio closed out Dariya Radulova 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 to close things out. The win improved Giglio's record to 6-1 on the year, a team-best in non-conference action.

Only Big Sky Conference matches remain on the Vikings' 2026 schedule. They return to action for their conference opener against Montana State on Sunday, March 15, at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (3 p.m.).
