PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland State Athletics has parted ways with head women's basketball coach Chelsey Gregg, Athletic Director Matt Billings announced Wednesday.
Â
Gregg spent the past 10 seasons on the Park Blocks, serving as first an assistant (2015-18), then an associate head coach (2018-21) before taking over as head coach for the past four seasons (2021-25).
Â
Gregg helped turn around a Viking program that went 0-20 in Big Sky play during her first year at the helm to one that won eight conference games and made the Big Sky semifinals in her second year. The +8 win differential within Big Sky play was the largest year-to-year improvement in program history.
Â
But the Vikings failed to capitalize on that momentum the past two seasons. The Vikings went 8-23 overall and 3-15 in Big Sky play during the 2023-24 season, then 4-24 overall and 1-17 in Big Sky play this past season.
Â
"We are thankful for the years of work Chelsey has put into our program. However, at this time, we thought it was in the best interest of our student-athletes and department to move in a different direction. We are eager to see Vikings women's basketball return to the top of the Big Sky Conference once again," Billings said of the decision.
Â
Billings and the Vikings will begin a national search for the next head women's basketball coach immediately.
