Portland State defensive back
Carsten Mamaril has been named Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Vikings' 40-35 victory at Cal Poly on Saturday.

Mamaril, a junior from Temecula, CA, had two interceptions, three pass breakups and made two tackles in the Vikings win.

A first-quarter interception by Mamaril snuffed out a Cal Poly drive and allowed the Vikings to take an early lead. His pick late in the third quarter set up PSU's final fourth-quarter touchdown.

For the season Mamaril leads the Vikings with three interceptions, seven pass breakups and has made 23 total tackles. He is the first Viking to earn national honors since quarterback
Dante Chachere was named National Offensive Player of the Week last season.
