Vikings Sign Five as Part of First Recruiting Class Under Karlie Burris

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland State head women's basketball coach Karlie Burris picked up her first win Tuesday. On Wednesday, she signed her first recruiting class, as the Vikings inked five players out of high school to add to Burris' week of milestones.

The class includes two in-state signees – Alex Padilla and Emma Zuniga from Tualatin and Keizer, Ore., respectively – a third northwest player in Liv Collins from Sumner, Wash., as well as Aspen McClees from Gilbert, Ariz., and Nihoa Dunn from Honolulu, Hawai'i.

"We are incredibly excited to officially welcome our 2026 signing class to the Viking family," Burris said. "This group represents everything we value in our program: versatility, toughness, high character, and an unwavering commitment to growth and competition. As our first signing class, they set the tone for the future of Portland State Women's Basketball."

The class features two state champions in Dunn, who won the 2025 Hawai'i state title with Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama, and Padilla, who won the Oregon 6A state title with Tualatin High School. Dunn will also give the Vikings a second Hawai'i State Gatorade Player of the Year on the roster next season. She earned the honor in 2025, two years after current Portland State junior Laynee Torres-Kahapea did in 2023.

Collins was named the All-Area Player of the Year by the Tacoma News Tribune for her Sumner High School team. McClees was named 6a Region Player of the Year for her Gilbert High School team. Additionally, Zuniga is a two-time Central Valley Conference Player of the Year for West Salem High School, while Padilla earned first-team all-league honors as a sophomore at Tualatin.

"As a staff, we couldn't be more thrilled about this talented and hardworking group. They embody the foundation we're building here at Portland State: competitive, team-first players who love the game and want to represent our community the right way," Burris said.

"The future is bright for Viking Basketball."
