Vikings Fall to Lumberjacks, 6-1

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -The Portland State women's tennis team returned to Big Sky action on Sunday, falling to Northern Arizona 6-1 at the NAU Tennis Center.

The Vikings fell to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play. NAU improved to 5-10 overall and 2-3 in Big Sky action. 

The Vikings had a strong start, completing a pair of convincing wins in doubles action. Capu Sanoner and Scarlett Perkins defeated Daryna Shoshyna and Dolavee Tumthong, 6-2 at line one before Nika Beukers and Momoko Yoshimura had an equally convincing win at line two, beating Laura Duhl and Pat Niewiadomska, 6-2. The pair of wins clinched the opening point for Portland State, leaving the match at No. 3 unfinished. 

Northern Arizona completed six straight-set wins in singles action to clinch the win. Beukers pushed Shoshyna to a first-set tiebreak at No. 3 before falling 7-6 (1), 6-3. Scarlett Perkins did the same in her second set at No. 6, dropping her match 6-4, 7-6 (1) against Duhl. 

The Vikings will return to Portland for their final home match next weekend. They'll host Idaho on senior day Saturday, April 6th at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (11:00 a.m.).
