Vikings Drop 6-1 Dual at Weber State

OGDEN, Utah – The Portland State women's tennis team dropped its weekend finale to reigning Big Sky Tournament Champion Weber State, falling 6-1 in a Sunday afternoon match held at the Ogden Athletic Club.

The Vikings dropped to 3-5 and 1-2 in conference action. The Wildcats jumped to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in Big Sky play.

For the third straight match, the Vikings secured the opening point by claiming two doubles victories. Scarlett Perkins and Capu Sanoner notched their first win as a duo, claiming a solid 6-3 win over Ana Morett and Megan Davies on the top court. For the second time this weekend, Nika Beukers and Momoko Yoshimura battled to a 7-6 victory at line two, beating Dylan Lolofie and Sicely Ferreira to clinch the crucial opening point for Portland State.

Sanoner's win on Sunday marked her 18th career doubles victory against a Big Sky opponent, propelling her to the program's all-time leader in conference doubles wins.

The Wildcats rattled off six singles wins to secure the victory. However, three of those included a third set. In her first singles appearance since the season opener, Sanoner had a strong first set at line three, winning 6-2 before ultimately falling to Dylan Lolofie, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Makoto Ohara also won her opening set at line four, 7-5, but Ferreira clawed her way back to win 5-7, 6-1, 7-5. On court two, Beukers took a 6-2 first-set loss but responded with a 6-4 victory to push a deciding set. In the end Ana Monett walked away with the win, edging Beukers 2-6, 6-4, 7-6.

The Vikings will return home for a two-match weekend at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. They'll host Seattle U on Friday, March 1st (11 a.m.) before returning to conference action against Montana on Sunday, March 3 (11 a.m.).
