Bengals Rally For Come From Behind Win Over Vikings, 68-65

Pocatello, ID – Idaho State outscored Portland State 11-2 in the final four minutes of the game to come from behind and defeat the Vikings, 68-65, at Reed Gym.

PSU had one of its best shooting games of the season, hitting 20-40 from the field, 7-14 from three-point range and 12-14 at the free throw line. But 17 turnovers were the Vikings' undoing, including four in the final four minutes as the Bengals mounted the comeback.

Portland State was whistled for 24 fouls in the game compared to 14 for Idaho State. The Bengals were 20-30 at the free throw line.

The loss drops the Vikings to 14-11 on the season, 5-7 and seventh place in the Big Sky Conference. PSU has now lost three in a row.

ISU passed up the Vikings, going to 6-6 in league and 11-14 overall. The Bengals have won three in a row.

Senior guard Bobby Harvey scored a season-high 17 points, hitting 5-7 from three-point range. He paced a Viking team that led for more than 30 minutes of the game, but gave up that edge with 1:16 to go on a free throw from Maleek Arrington.

Idaho State made its last five field goals in the game and 7-10 at the line in the last four minutes.

The Bengals set the tempo to a half-court game, the type that has frustrated the Vikings at times this season. However, PSU shot the ball well in the half-court throughout the night.

PSU shot well enough in the first half, hitting 13-24 from the field for a .542 mark. The problem for the Vikings was they weren't getting up enough shots early, committing nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes. But they settled down, outscoring the Bengals, 21-11 over the final 10 minutes to lead 35-28 at halftime.

The Vikings led by 11 points on a pair of occasions early in the second half. But that was short-lived and the Bengals were able to keep the margin at single digits for the next 15 minutes before finally taking the lead.

PSU was ahead 63-57 with 4:33 to play but struggled to score the rest of the way.

ISU's Kiree Huie made four straight free throws, then a shot in the lane to finally tie the game at 63-63. KJ Allen had a dunk for the Vikings to get the lead back with 2:33 to go, but it was PSU's only score in the closing stretch.

Miguel Tomley tied the game again, then ISU made three of four free throws in the final two minutes for the three-point win.

The Vikings had a look at a desperation three-pointer at the end but could not convert.

Allen scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Portland State. Isaiah Kirby added 11 points and four assists.

Tomley led the Bengals with 18 points. Brayden Parker added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
